Top 7 Best Pioneer Car Stereos – Reviews

Here we have reviewed our top 8 picks with pros and cons!

Best Touchscreen Stereo – Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX

Our Pick

1. Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX - The Overall Best Pioneer Touchscreen Stereo

This is a great car stereo for you if you are looking for a 7-inch responsive touchscreen display.

It offer great audio quality due to its high power built-in amplifier, 13-band equalizer, Crossover, Bass Boost, 24 bit DA Converter .

Additionally, it is easy to install due to its shallow chassis design.

Pros

  • 7-inch Capacitive Touchscreen display
  • Home Screen Customization, Automatic Dimmer with vehicle illumination.
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto works great with all phones.
  • Dual Bluetooth Connection for connecting two phones in one time
  • Simple and easy to use interface.
  • Support all types of audio files like FLAC, Hi-Res, MP3 and more.

Cons

  • No physical volume knob, buttons
  • No CD/DVD Player, if you want one then check out AVH-2500NEX or AVH-3400NEX below.
  • There is no built-in navigation system available. But you can check below Pioneer AVIC-W8600NEX which is the best pioneer stereo that comes with a built-in navigation feature.

I finally got the Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX installed in my car, replacing the old factory stereo. It was a bit of a project, taking most of a day to run all the wires and connect everything up, but totally worth it. I even managed to keep all my steering wheel controls and the rearview camera working with the help of an extra part (thanks to the online reviews for the heads-up on that!).

The first thing that struck me was the screen – it’s gorgeous. Super clear and sharp, and it looks really sleek in the dash. It’s big enough to see everything easily, but not so big that it looks overwhelming. Plus, the brightness adjusts automatically depending on whether my headlights are on, so no more blinding me at night.

Speaking of smartphones, wireless CarPlay is a game-changer. Just hop in the car and my iPhone connects automatically. Apple Maps, Spotify, texts, calls – it’s all right there on the touchscreen, and it works flawlessly. No more messing around with wires or fighting with Bluetooth. I haven’t even missed the CD player once!

The sound quality is amazing too. Even with the stock speakers, there’s a huge difference. The music sounds richer and fuller, and the equalizer lets me fine-tune it to my taste. The bass sounds especially punchier, and calls are crystal clear thanks to the included high-quality mic.

The only thing that takes a little getting used to is the lack of a physical volume knob. The on-screen buttons work fine, but there is a slight delay that can be frustrating when you’re trying to crank up the volume quickly. Luckily, the steering wheel controls work great, so it’s not a dealbreaker.

Overall, I’m super happy with this head unit. It’s a massive upgrade over the stock stereo, and the CarPlay functionality makes it feel like I’m driving a whole new car. If you’re looking for a feature-packed double-din receiver with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, this Pioneer is a fantastic option.

Just be prepared to spend a little extra time on installation (or hire a pro!) and maybe invest in a phone mount for easy access to the screen if you don’t like the on-screen volume controls.

FAQs

Which is the best Pioneer touchscreen stereo?

In our opinion, the Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX is currently the latest and the best head unit in 2023. It has Wireless Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity, HD Radio, SiriusXM compatibility, and Pandora integration.

What is the difference between RMS and Power Peak?

RMS stands for Root Mean Square and is a way of representing the average power of a signal. Power peak, on the other hand, is the maximum power of a signal. The main difference between these two measures is that RMS takes into account all parts of the signal while power peak only looks at the loudest part of the signal.

What is the difference between DMH and AVH?

The AVH head units support Compact Discs and DVDs, they also support playback of audio discs such as CD music. DMH’s (Digital Media Receiver) doesn’t support CD/DVD playback and only supports MP3 format for audio recording.

Which is better single DIN or double DIN?

Double din units are by 4 by 8 inches while single din units are 2 by 8 inches, which is why double din units take up more space on your dashboard.

In terms of audio quality, both are the same. When it comes to features, double din always wins.

For me, it came down to aesthetics and less visibility with a double din unit.
